the winner of Mister Universal Ambassador 2016 was named during the pageant’s final held at the Suroboyo Carnival Park in Indonesia. Willan Pagayon from the Philippines hosted the ceremony.
Fifty candidates from around the world vied to succeed the 2015 winner Christian Daniel Ortiz Gonzalez of Puerto Rico, the first-ever Mister Universal Ambassador.
The traditional parade of nations started the final competition, followed by the announcement of the top three contenders for Mister Talent. Whoever is named best in talent will automatically be included in the top fifteen.
Candidates from Romania and Azerbaijan danced, while Mr. Indonesia sang for the judges.
The beachwear competition was next with the contestants parading in short shorts from a designer from Thailand. Among the standouts (at least for me) were Macau, Moldova, Netherlands, Peru, Philippines, Puerto Rico, Serbia, Spain, Sweden and Ukraine.
Mister Southeast Asia International 2016: Andrea Biondo, Philippines
Most Promising Model 2016: Sengenas Valstis, Kyrzygstan
Best in Catwalk: Park Su Min, Korea
The Top 15 styled themselves for the fashion parade. Macau was charming, Serbia and Philippines were stunning, and Algeria was the only one who opted for a rugged look.
The Top 10 then took part in the interview portion. They were given 30 seconds to answer the same question.
Their answers determined their place in the Top 5.
The question: “Why should you be the next Mister Universal Ambassador 2016 and why?”
Algeria gave a heartfelt answer, even citing a story from his childhood. The Philippines wanted to be a role model and “push” the youth away from bad things like drugs. Macau gave a short answer. I guess it’s because he didn’t have any interpreter and couldn’t speak English. Too bad.
There’s another Q&A and the Final 5 were given the same question: “What makes you proud of your country nowadays?”
Dominican Republic said they respect other cultures and diversity, Serbia was proud of how they keep being positive, Peru was proud of being humble and simple, Vietnam of their unity, and Philippines of its lovely and most hospitable people.
